Run Project Screen - Overview

The Run Project screen displays the reports, tasks and parameters that a project encapsulates. From this screen, the project is run and the tasks will validate the reports.

Definitions:

  • Project - A collection of selected reports and a set of tasks designed to validate those reports.
  • Task -    A process designed to validate a report, consisting of two queries; typically, one running against the Excel report, and another against a database .

Usage:     From the Run Project screen you can:

  • Run your project and validate your reports.
  • List the reports your project will validate.
  • List the tasks that will validate your reports.
  • Open the Project Properties screen for edit.
  • Open a Task Properties screen for edit.

How to use this screen:

Running your project:

1.   The Project name is displayed as a link at the top left corner of the screen. Clicking on the link will open the Project Properties screen for project maintenance.

2.    The Project name is displayed as a link at the top left corner of the screen. Clicking on the link will open the Project Properties screen for project maintenance.

3.  The Report List Query Input Parameters are created in the Project Properties window. Here, in the Run Project window, they can be updated with values the WHERE clause of your Report List Query uses to help locate your reports. When included in the SELECT clause, these values can also be passed to your tasks

When you click on a parameter cell, the appropriate data editor will appear depending on its data type.

 4.   Locating your reports. Clicking the Find Reports button will execute the Report List Query and populate the Reports list with a list of report names.

All report names generated by the Report List Query are added to the Reports list. The second column, Exists confirms whether a report with that name was found in the Reports Folder. Note how all columns from the Report List Query have been added as parameters values next to the report names. This way each report’s unique set of parameters will be passed to tasks as the report is being validated.

 5.  Choosing the reports you wish to validate. Selected reports are added as new columns to the Tasks list where the results of tasks will be displayed.

6.       Running the project. Click Run Tasks to run your project and validate your reports.

 Here, reports have been validated.

The summary status for each report is indicated on the Reports list, to the left. If any validation task run against the report fails, the report is flagged with a summary status of having failed.

On the right, the specific success or failure of each task, run for each report, is indicated on the Tasks list.

The Run Log window provides a more detailed display of the task results. Descriptions of serious errors will be listed here.

The Project Status Bar provides a quick assessment of overall results.
